I haven’t been plugged into the “Star Trek” universe for quite some time, but I decided to change that when I saw that John Byrne was onboard for a series starring Leonard McCoy. I vaguely recall having a pair of “Who’s Who” comics from the late 1980s that featured Star Trek characters — a surprising number of them drawn by John Byrne. Byrne’s art has always intrigued me, and the comfortable familiarity of Dr. McCoy made this book seem worth a peek. There’s no red shirts taking a fall, there’s no high drama space-born explosions, heck, there aren’t even any Klingons in this book. McCoy’s disguise — or rather the beard John Byrne (who sports a beard rather similar in appearance last I saw) drew on McCoy — almost threatens to pull this story off-course completely. Luckily, that divergence is corrected by the appearance of Theela the Andorian who, as a blue-skinned, white-haired, horned alien is one of the most distinctive alien species from the Star Trek universe. Show originally debuted 1974-75 in Japan Olympusat, Inc.'s television channel TOKU will air the Ultraman Leo series beginning on November 29 at 7:30 p.m. EST. The channel began streaming a trailer last week. TOKU describes the story: The 7th entry in the extremely popular Ultra Series. As a warrior from the planet L77 of the Leo constellation, Ultraman Leo fights to protect mankind from a new alien menace that threatens to destroy earth. Relying on his physical abilities and specializing in martial arts, Ultraman Leo joins MAC (Monster Attack Crew) and the Ultra Brothers in their efforts to protect earth and the universe from all evil. The 51-episode series originally aired in Japan in 1974-75. Tatsumi Nikamoto starred as the in-suit actor for the titular character. The series is also streaming on Crunchyroll. We’ve seen several fictionalized versions of Leonardo da Vinci over the years — heroic, villainous, everything in between. What is it that makes him such a compelling figure in history, even now?
